Album Info:The first part of my largest album on this site, it features all (that i was able to recover after multiple computer crashes) of my railroad photography in my home state for the first five years since I've had a digital camera. It has many mainline UP trains, Amtrak passenger trains, shortlines, and many remnants of the great Southern Pacific. This album continues into the next part "Oregon Railroading: Part 2 (2010-2014)". Description:  After the 1996 was unveiled in Roseville it wasnt very long before she found a permamnent assignment on the point of the Los Angeles/Brooklyn and return Z trains, the highest priority freights on the I-5 corridor and the modern equivalent of SP's Pacific Coast Expediter. UP 1996 kept this assignment until all the heritage SD70ACe's were rounded up in North Platte for a calendar photo, and after that the rule to keep them on home rails was seemingly abandoned. The ex-SP Dash 9 is also right at home on this train.

Title:  Southern Pacific Caboose In Use And In Very Good Condition
Description:  This MoW ribbon rail train was being pushed rear-end-first employing a rarely used espee C-50-9 caboose. UP has a small handfull of these SP C-50-9s still active on their roster and the 4702 is possibly the best looking of all. Most of its sister cabeese have fallen victim to tagging and the often rainy Oregon weather. The 4702's home for most days is in Oakridge. The C-50-9 (4700 series) were the last cabooses SP ordered and were delivered in 1980. Note the size of the lash up on the train parked on the siding.
